His determination must have gripped Serge in February, when – despite the snow in the city, he got up early to realize his project. The plan: To build a quarterpipe at the back of the ZWZ.
Early in the morning, a group of motivated people in their best winter gear gathered to start work. The snow and frosty temperatures were fought with fire and determination. Fire for your soul and fire to protect the fresh concrete from slipping. Construction continued late into the night, so Theyge was able to make the final finish shortly before his first train connection the next morning.
Work continued somewhat more pleasantly in October of the same year, when the Vipers corner with the small quarter pipe mini-doorway was built on one last summer’s day. The beauty of such DIY concrete projects is not the perfect end result, but working together. Sometimes a handshaped coping is flattened into a noping by the next person to make it easier to finish. But it’s fun – to build and to skate. And that’s what DIY stands for, right?
See you next summer… we won’t be building much outdoors this year because Serge and friends found an indoor place with a truck load of wood.
Look out for the Lettyrämp, when in Zürich.
