BowlMania 2016 – Adriatic Bowl – Fano, Italy

With everything Italy has to offer you can now add the best bowl in Europe. The father of the young italian rider Nicola Vitali, Alessandro Vitali and his dad decided to dig a big hole in their garden in a small town on the Adriatic sea. Then with the help of local skaters, the Share crew from Milano and Red from Dreamland skateparks, came over himself to help shoot the crete. The result is fantastic, an homage to the combi bowl with a perfect coping.*

After holding the Bowlmania, in Vincenza twice then in Lodi, the Adriatic bowl was hosting the 4th edition. Under the hot sun, Saturday saw a big fight to get the wild cards for the finals. Lots of young guns from Italy were raging and trying to master the difficulties of vert, square corners and snaking… Ivan Federico was not supposed to be there, but fresh out the original Combi in California he showed up and rode in the qualifiers easily lofting big airs and showing the rivals how it’s supposed to be ridden.

Sunday in Italy starts at 3pm, good idea with the hot sun, 7 heats of 4 skaters, and El Capitan Jairock as a special guest announcer to start the riot! This guy is the funniest and best entertainer ever, he was more photographed and filmed than the riders!

I’ll let the photos do the talking, but to my mind, Gabriele Pinatone with his collection of old school tricks, Andrea Casasanta with his slick style, Bobby Koushesh didn’t slow down after a gnarly crash in the deep end, Pecho and his aggressive surf style, Icaro so technical… all deserved a special shout out!

The finals saw Kollin Schanley doing inverts with so much class, Indro the most intense skater of the weekend in my opinion, Nicola Vitali master of his own domain, Martino Cattaneo so much power and tricks qualities, la bestia Jaime Mateu on fire, skating like there’s no tomorrow, so fun to watch, Alessandro Mazzara, the style of Chris Miller in a 12 year olds body! Tyler Edtmayer who kept on progressing during the week end, with the McTwist in the deep round bowl when everyone else was starting to be out of gas and his huge smile when he was announced second were fabulous, and the great Ivan, jetlagged, injured, but so professional, claimed the first place in front of a roaring crowd who flocked the Adriatic bowl! El Captain Jairock started a best trick and Jaime (Mateu) stole the show with a footplant off the captain’s ass and belly, he also did a transfer boneless off the peninsula into the deep! If this was not enough, he bonelessed from platform into the flat of the deep!

Next year, it’s not possible to say you haven’t heard about this gem of a contest. All hail the Murder team and the Adriatic crew for holding such an amazing contest! Grazie mille!”
